So last night Lizard Lounge and Red Bull held the Dallas Leg of the Thre3style competition, and I have to say I was very surprised by the turnout.
I treated the battle like it was no big deal, but when I got on that stage I can’t lie I got nervous; my fingers were still numb after my set. I got 2nd place, and was very happy to get props from a lot of people. It was a great feeling to get love from my peers. Here is a lil clip from my set taken by the world famous Addiel G. He says that its too dark, not stabilized, and the audio is bad. I’ll let you be the judge of it.
I’m still flipping out on how the crowd reacted when I dropped Metallica. Also there were a lot of Photographers in the house last night, but the homey Michael Hawkins came through with an ill shot of me.
Kiddrae was also there and I can’t wait to see what he got.
I am glad that I have been invited to be part of this battle. Red Bull has done an awesome thing and took DJ battle to a different level. Instead of the DMC battles you’re use to this is more of a Party Rock battle. here is Their explanation of it.
What is Red Bull Thre3Style?
- An international DJ competition to crown the most versatile Party-Rock DJ
- 8 Local DJ’s will perform for 15 minutes each (2 DJ rigs set up on stage and they alternate)
- There is one simple rule: Play at least 3 genres of music
- There is one simple objective: Rock the house
- Hosted by credible media personality Rock T.
- 3-4 Judges are comprised of local music writers, promoters, and headlining DJ‘s.
- The judges evaluate each performer based on creativity, track selection, skills, stage presence, and audience response.
There will be 8 regional U.S. qualifiers. Each regional winner will be awarded a $1,000 PRIZE and will represent their region in the national qualifiers held in Denver in October 2010. The winner from the national contest will then win a cash prize and a trip to compete and represent the USA in the International Red Bull Thre3 Style competition held in Paris 2010.
For 2010 the following twelve countries are all holding Red Bull Thre3Style events, with local qualifiers and then country finals: Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Japan, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, and USA.
