Free Font: FT Anchor Yard

By Nick Quintero – 6 a.m.

Yesterday my buddy Lucas posted a cool showcase of fonts from The League of Moveable Type and it just so happened that I was working on my own post about fonts at the same time. I’ve been a designer for more than 10 years and have always been infatuated with text and type. I never really considered myself a typographer since I lack formal education on the subject, but I do consider myself pretty handy with a Wacom tablet and can usually create some cool custom lettering.

A lot of my designs consist of custom, hand drawn type and people always ask me what fonts I use. After a long time of thinking about doing it, I finally decided to start creating my own fonts. Since my love for type is not so formal, I figured this could be a casual thing and I can release the fonts right here via Fresher Than. I’m hoping that some of my designer friends will get in on this and we can get a nice little collection of custom fonts for you guys to download. This is my first attempt at a font so feel free to judge the hell out of it.

FT Anchor Yard is a free font based on a vintage letter style that I’ve developed after emulating different looks for recent work. This font contains a regular and italics version and the uppercase glyphs have a slight curl to stylize the letters a bit. Numbers 1-9 also contain some rough anchors I drew. Enjoy!
