Well, the long rumored event we told you about in August, the moment we’ve all been hoping/waiting/praying for has finally arrived: Captain EO is officially coming back to Disneyland! From /film:
Disney Parks has confirmed that Honey I Shrunk The Audience will be closing sometime in the next few weeks to make way for the the return of the Francis Ford Coppola-directed/George Lucas-produced Michael Jackson sci-fi action 3D musical short film Captain EO. The original film will return to Disneyland’s Tomorrowland beginning in February 2010
For those of you who don’t know, Captain EO was a 17 minute 3-D Sci-Fi epic starring Michael Jackson and directed by Francis Ford Coppoloa (The Godfather, Apocalypse Now) that was the centerpiece of Tomorrowland for years. Opening in 1986 and costing $17 million to make ($35 million in today’s money), Captian EO was THE reason (and Star Tours) to pay a visit to the Magic Kingdom. Sadly the show was closed in the mid/early 90′s during one of Michael’s more, shall we say “busy” phases. While the film has continued to draw interest on Youtube it’s been something of a goal of mine to see this in a theatre again, and now it looks like I’m gonna get my chance.
